Chester Station is beginning to book events
for the 2008 season. We will be opening the building on March 1.
On the calendar as of Feb 12, is:
Gateway Middle School / Chester Theatre Co. young writer's workshop. Sat. Mar 1 and Sun Mar 2. Westfield River Wild & Scenic Stream Team meeting, Thurs., March 6 and a private party is booked for Fri., Mar. 14. In Apr., Troop 101 of Westfield, MA, will be staying in the antique caboose for three days, Apr. 18, 19 and 20. With ancillary tours to fish in the Westfield, Hike to the Keystone Arches and the Becket Quarry, tour the Chester Station Museum, and cookouts on the lawn, this will be a fun-filled weekend on the way to Railroading Merit Badges for these scouts. May brings us to Chester On Track 18, on Sat., May 17, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This fun-filled day includes: Massive parade, Civil War and early railroad re-enactors. train show & craft fair,1840 railroad station museum, in Historically Listed (©. late 1700) downtown. live entertainment, 'one-lung' steam & gas engine demos, classic cars, a number of 1920's-era freight cars, including wooden caboose, and 'Children's Boxcar' on display. Hikes to a series of 1830 stone arch RR bridges on Massachusetts’ first Wild & Scenic River, tour a working granite quarry (18 years & over) and archeological stone works, speeder and helicopter rides, historic displays, food & more! In June, Foundation members will speak on George Washington Whistler's railroad work at the Mass Bay Railroad Enthusiasts meeting in Brookline, MA And, as of this writing, two hikes to the Arches are planned for the month of August. On Sun., the 3rd, under the auspices of the Becket Arts Center, and on Sat., the 9th, under the sponsorship of the Nature Conservancy. Please contact those groups for information on these hikes. An informational gathering will be held at the station in conjunction with these hikes. We'd like to have you add to the excitement at Chester Station during 2008. Please contact us to host your party, wedding, or overnight campout at this unique and affordable facility.
